To JLA Members:

 

We regret to inform you that the email notice members received Monday announcing that there would not be a Sep 15th AGM, and that a new Board had been "appointed”, DID NOT come via the official JLA Bulletin email channel and did not come from the Board as a unified whole.

 

Please refer to the official JLA Website www.jackslakeassociation.ca and you will note that there is no such official announcement of new directors, and up to now, no AGM cancellation.

 

Traditionally the AGM is held to provide members with a full management update, financial accounting, and an opportunity to give YOUR vote to new Board members.

 

After unfortunate board conflict regarding roles and bylaw interpretation, proposals were made to put YOU back in control: simplify and focus the functioning of the AGM by means of a neutral MC, full financial accounting to members, and YOUR voting selection of new Board members from the full set of remaining nominees that entered this process in good faith back before Aug 1st.

 

Unfortunately, these proposals were overridden and a faction of this Board declared new Board members, without full board attendance and without YOUR opportunity to vote.

 

Noting the strife, the Federation of Ontario Cottage Associations (FOCA) has pulled their technical and logistical support from our AGM.  This makes it impossible to hold the official AGM on Sep 15.

 

 

It is unfortunate that JLA has come to this.  However, there IS a way for you to voice your opinion and influence the direction of JLA from this point forward.

 

Members can act now to force an emergency Special Meeting, to REMOVE ALL of the Board and start anew.  This is your lake, your association, and your Board.  Per bylaw 4.2 Special Meeting and 3.7 Other Nominations, 25% of the membership (about 55 member lakers) can petition to call a Special Meeting to dissolve this Board and elect Directors of YOUR choice.  You can of course vote to re-elect any Directors you see fit.
