JLA BOD Update

Monday May 16, 2022

Howdy Jack Lakers!

I am honoured to have the privilege of providing you with this update of your JLA Board activities. On Thursday, April 28th your JLA Board of Directors held our regular monthly meeting.

The board accepted the resignation of Glen Painter at the meeting and appointed Blake Steels Director of Safety. We are grateful that Glen will continue to support the JLA with the coordination of buoys and beacons, and with updating the lake mapping, very important jobs, and we thank Glen for his expertise and dedication.

We are very pleased to have so many lakers communicating with us through the comments@jackslakeassociation.ca email. We review and respond to every email that comes in. Last month, in addition to the regular emails, we had 9 specialized items of correspondence to review at our board meeting. Keep the communication coming, we are always happy to hear from you!

Can you believe the last Regatta was in 2019?! We are happy to announce that the Regatta will be back in 2022 and we can’t wait. We would like to thank Dave Hoyle for over 10 years of dedication to making the Regatta a success. His expertise and announcing will be missed. Dave deserves to enjoy the Regatta as a participant after so many years dedicated to this amazing event. This year the Regatta will be held on July 30th and 31st. Keep an eye out for more information in the coming weeks.

We are also extremely excited to announce the first Jack Lake music festival, ‘On The Bay’, set for Saturday July 16th. The event will showcase the musical talent we have on the lake in various locations. Yes, that’s right we want YOU to be the performers. We are calling on everyone to shine up their horns, blow the dust off the six string, sharpen up the drum sticks and start prepping the vocals for July 16th. If you are interested in performing please complete the form at the following link and we will get back to you ASAP. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at jonathan.mitchell@jacklake.org. More information to follow soon! https://www.jackslakeassociation.ca/jla-music-festival/

We are always looking for volunteers to help with our events and activities so if you have some free time or are a high school student looking for volunteer hours please fill out the volunteer sign up form at the link below. Opportunities include Regatta events/setup, Music Festival, Kids Dance Party, Ice Cream Social, Kids Fishing Derby, and Guided Nature Tours. https://www.jackslakeassociation.ca/volunteer/

More webinars are in the works. Topics are Invasive Species Prevention and Naturalization of Shorelines-what we can do to protect our precious shoreline, Boating Safety, Cottage Succession Planning and a Special pre-election Municipal All Candidates Meeting.

The Board reviewed reports from the Governance Committee, the Directors of Environment, Technology, Membership, Communication and from the Treasurer.

It was a full Agenda! For details, members can log in on the website and review meeting Minutes, which are posted each month once they are accepted at the next month’s meeting.

As always my door, or dock, is always open for a fellow Jack Laker. Please do not hesitate to give me a shout, drop me a line or drop by if you have any feedback, questions or concerns.

See you on the lake!
