JLA BOD Update

Saturday June 18, 2022

Greetings, fellow Jack Lakers!

I have the privilege of providing this update on your JLA Board activities. We now have settled into a regular cadence of monthly board of directors meetings. Our last was on May 26th, only a few days after the severe storm on May 21st. We spent some time discussing and sharing concerns for those that were impacted. We heard many great stories of lakers that immediately lent support and help to their neighbours. In recognition, we established a 'Storm Volunteer Appreciation' fund to allow the opportunity for lakers to nominate those neighbours that provided help. This is one small way we can help to "connect" people together and show appreciation.

We spent a good portion of this meeting discussing and planning for upcoming summer events such as the Kids' Ice Cream Social, Music Festival, Kids' Fishing Derby, and Regatta. I'm sure you, like us, the board members, are looking forward to these events after the last two "quiet" years. To help make these events a success, we need volunteers. If you can help, please send us an email at comments@jackslakeassociation.ca.

The joint JLA and Chandos Lake Property Owners Association (CLPOA) Webinar regarding Invasive Species scheduled for June 9th was postponed due to the storm's aftermath. We will look to reschedule this in the coming months.

On more administrative matters, we adopted a new Code of Ethics for board and committee members. This is the first of many items we are working on to bring the JLA in line with new Ontario's Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA) regulations. You will see more updates over the next year or so.

We reviewed and discussed ongoing environmental issues and new items brought to our attention by several members. Unfortunately, Pat Phillips, Director of Environment, had decided to resign, and the board formally accepted her resignation.

We also had a sneak peek at parts of the upcoming Smoke Signals magazine. It is coming soon, we promise! If your membership is not up to date, this would be an excellent time to renew to ensure you receive your copy. You can check your membership status, renew or sign-up at https://www.jackslakeassociation.ca/account.
Amanda Gray, our Treasurer, gave us an encouraging update on the number of advertisers. It is great to have so many local businesses supporting us.

Hope to see you this summer around the lake and at some, or all, of the events.
