JLA BOD Update #5
Friday February 04, 2022
On Sunday morning January 30th the new JLA board held its 5th Board of Directors meeting. Some of the highlights are briefly summarized here by JLA Executive Treasurer Amanda Gray from her desk in our spectacular winter lake setting.
Happy Winter Wonderland Jack’s Lakers!
It’s been an honour and a privilege to join the Jack’s Lake Association Board of Directors. The newly formed team is working very hard to bring the JLA into more modern times. As your new Executive Treasurer I am happy to provide this latest update from the Board of Directors January 30th meeting.
The first of a new series of webinars was presented on January 20th. Thank you to Erin Schroeder for educating us on the history of Jack’s Lake. If you missed the webinar you can watch the recording on the JLA website. I promise it won’t disappoint!
If you and your family have any Jack’s Lake history documents or items that will help contribute to preserving the history of the lake, please drop them off at the North Kawartha Library in Apsley. They are collecting items for the JLA to archive for future use.
The second of the webinar series is "Meet the Mayors" on March 5th and the third webinar will be "Turtle Talk” on Tuesday April 5th at 5:00 p.m. Join JLA Events Director Jonathan Mitchell who will cohost along with 12 year old laker Kennedy Mitchell and her friend Zoe Sullivan. This is a family friendly affair you will not want to miss!
Thank you to all who have completed the JLA survey. The results so far have been very informative and will help the Board provide the type of experiences you are asking for as a JLA member. If you have not completed the survey you have until February 15th, 2022. The survey can be found on the JLA home page of the website under the January 9th announcement. The survey committee will be providing a written analysis of the data collected.
On the Environmental side, the Environmental committee has been busy working on a number of important issues that could/will affect our lake. They have been following up on: the pesticide issues with the Ministry of Environment; the issue of logging around the lake; and they are working on shoreline preservation. They were very busy preparing a presentation made to HBM Township Council on February 1.
These are just some of the projects they have on the go.
The 2022 budget has been created and is ready to be passed at the next meeting. A major focus this year will be on increasing membership and modernizing systems.
Director of Safety Glen Painter has been busy working on lake map updates.
If you know of someone new to the lake, please suggest they join the JLA using this link: https://jackslakeassociation.ca/registration/
The JLA wishes all lakers a very happy, healthy and memorable 2022 lake season. So many memories to be made year round!
