Season’s Greetings Lakers!
First, let me thank you all for entrusting me with the privilege to represent you as a JLA Director. I am honored to be working with eleven very talented people to protect the beautiful lake and lifestyle we share. As your new Executive Secretary, I am happy to provide this latest update from the Board of Directors most recent meeting, December 13.
Continuing with our priority of good governance, we have completed a risk management review. Guest speaker Ross Fraser of Cade Insurance joined us with a session on best practices, and best efforts as they relate to JLA liability with respect to safety, markers/cautionary buoys and fire pumps, as well as activities and events. We discussed duties & responsibilities of Directors and I assure you the newly created Governance Committee has everything well in hand as it is working on defining and documenting those, as well as Codes of Conduct, Confidentiality and Conflict.
The Archives team is busy collecting JLA documents and photos, etc. and we ask that any of you with such items, take them to Debbie Hall at the Apsley Library, where we have arranged for collection. The goal is to preserve, store and digitize these items and make them available for viewing.
The new Survey Committee is in the final stages of their work and you can expect to receive the survey the first week of January. We are looking forward to hearing from you as this is your opportunity to let us know what is important to you and your family.
The Board is excited to announce we are planning a series of online educational/ information sessions for Members. Topics will include boating safety, invasive species, preserving natural shorelines and more! The plan is to invite expert speakers, offer Q & A's and maybe even throw in a few family fun nights along the way. Super exciting stuff! We hope to bring you the first live webinar event in January with Erin Schroeder, Jack's Lake "historian”, as guest presenter.
Remember that JLA memberships can make a great holiday gift. https://jackslakeassociation.ca/registration/
May all that is beautiful, meaningful and brings you joy be yours this holiday season and throughout the coming year!
