Seeking new Board Members
Wednesday July 14, 2021
Greetings Lakers,We are now recruiting new members to join the 2021-2022 JLA Board of Directors !
As JLA's Acting President & Chair of the Nominating Committee, I wanted to take a few moments to say hello and to provide a bit of information prior to our virtual Annual General Meeting on Thursday, August 26 at 7:00 pm. I've been out of country for several months and just getting back to my perch on Sharpe's Bay. It's good to be back !
A couple of updates. The JLA is in transition and actively looking to renew and modernize. Over the last few months, along with other Board members, I've focused on improving transparency and Board governance. For instance, we are in the process of updating and strengthening the Association’s bylaws, committee & team structures, providing clearer rules around accountability for Board members and committees including a Code of Conduct. These are key priorities as we move forward into the coming year and are important building blocks to help build renewed confidence among membership that the Association is moving in the right direction. We hope to share more information on this important project at the upcoming AGM.
We've received encouraging interest from some of you concerning Board positions. There are currently 7 open posts and I'd like to encourage all JLA members – and those who would like to become members -- to consider putting your name forward to the Nominating Committee. We need fresh ideas and energy and would love to have some new lakers step forward and take an active role in revitalizing JLA.
Apart from having a general interest in our mission to conserve & care for the lake & its environs and to connect with the lake community, we are currently in need of lakers who have the following skill sets and experience:
- accounting/book keeping for the position of Treasurer
- (corporate) secretarial/governance experience for the position of Secretary
- environmental science/planning/intergovernmental relations advocacy/lake stewardship for various positions overseeing environmental lake issues such as water quality, logging, shoreline preservations, wetlands, etc.
- media relations/marketing/public relations for various positions involving communications
- events planning & organization for various positions involving lake activities/events
Attached please find the JLA Nominations Guidelines and the Nominations Form that we ask you to submit before the August 1 deadline.
